WHY THE SANDALS, GOD?

Exo 3:3-5 “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.” 4 When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. 5 “Do not come any closer,” the LORD warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.

In some ways, this passage has puzzled me … Why was Moses told to take off his sandals? What’s the big deal here? Then, at a men’s conference, I once heard a well-known pastor speak on this very passage … and what he said made a lot of sense.

We Are Remembered!!!

Mal 3:16-17 Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the LORD listened to what they said. In His presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared Him and always thought about the honor of His name. 17 “They will be My people,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be My own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.

The ministry and message of the Prophet Malachi took place in very desperate times … in a society very similar to ours in many ways. There were very severe economic troubles, the foundation of common morality seemed to be washing away, many religious and political leaders were corrupt, the poor and the needy were often ignored. So our Loving God sent Malachi to warn His people (again) and called them to return to their Redeeming God.
And then the verses shown above were written. They are words that have inspired and motivated me again and again.
Just think of it … the Lord God, the Almighty, the Creator of all that is or ever will be, the Most High … He “listens” to what His people say and He records our names on His scroll of remembrance. Our Father God simply will not allow Himself to forget His people … nor what they say and what they do in honor of His Name.
Since God has no favorites or shows no partiality, these words most certainly apply to you and me as well. Even our feeblest attempts to honor Him, serve Him, worship Him and obey Him are honored. Even if we simply give a cup of cold water to someone in His Name … The Lord Himself keeps tabs on such things and He will one day soon honor and reward us greatly.
So be encouraged, dear one, nothing done for God will ever be forgotten. We all know that there can be dry times in our spiritual walk … when we are tired or feeling blue and it becomes difficult to “keep on keeping on.” Don’t lose heart. God does not forget us. He honors those who honor Him.
1Pe 1:8-9 You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls.
